Nursing Homes

FAQ:

A nursing home (also known as a skilled nursing facility or a long-term care facility) provides extensive health care services for elderly people who may have ongoing physical or mental conditions. They provide both personal care (feeding, bathing, and getting dressed) and medical care. Registered nurses will regularly monitor the residents of the nursing homes, they will also have licensed medical professionals available 24 hours a day. Most large nursing homes also have full-time physical therapists for their residents. Ontario has more than 600 long-term care facilities, some of them are publicly owned and the majority of them are privately owned.

In Toronto, all nursing homes for elderly people are funded by the provincial government. However, you will have to pay for the accommodation fees of the nursing home. The cost of the nursing home may also vary depending on your specific medical needs. For a semi-private room, the cost is around $1,900 per month and for a private room, the cost is around $2,300 per month. The government of Canada also provides subsidies for elderly people who are unable to pay the accommodation fees of the nursing home.

Nursing is a rewarding career. According to Payscale.com, the average salary of a nursing home caregiver in Canada is around $33,000 per year. The salary for an entry level position (less than 1 year of experience) is around $15 per hour. On the other hand, the salary of an experienced nursing home caregiver with more than ten years of experience can be as high as $20 per hour (including bonus and overtime pay).

Nursing homes provide both personal care (feeding, bathing, and getting dressed) and medical care. A licensed trained medical professional and qualified nurses are always present at the nursing homes. On the other hand, assisted living facilities mainly focus on the personal care of the residents, they provide a residential environment so that the residents feel comfortable and safe in the facility. An assisted living facility can be considered as a permanent residence for elderly people.

Anyone who retires there or who is a long-term patient there or who works or volunteers or visits there should consider themselves truly blessed.

There's no place like home sweet home. I consider myself fortunate to have lived in the Self Care unit for the past 12 years, I'm looking forward to the next 12 years. 😃😃.

Lyn Garrett

I moved my Mother to Copernicus Lodge as she could no longer manage in a three level home. There is no question her quality of life improved as she made friends; attended concerts; went on outings and had a hair salon on the premises. My Mother passed six weeks before her 102nd birthday in 2015. I will forever be grateful to all the staff for their kindness.

Business Information:

Nursing homes provide valuable personal and medical care services to elderly citizens. Licensed medical professionals and qualified nurses are always present to supervise the residents at the nursing homes. Nursing homes provide many services including physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, dementia care, and convalescent care. They also provide a variety of activities for their residents. Most large nursing homes also provide rehabilitative care after critical surgeries or accidents.

Toronto is one of the most expensive cities to live in, the cost of nursing homes is also remarkably high in Toronto. Moreover, selecting a nursing home for your loved ones is not an easy task. You should select the right nursing home according to the type of care they need. You should do adequate research online before choosing a reputable one. You should review their websites and read the customer reviews to check their overall performance. One of the easiest ways to find a good nursing home is via referrals. You should ask friends, colleagues, family members, or family physicians who have already dealt with the nursing home before. When selecting a nursing home, accommodation fees are a critical factor to consider. You also need to consider the location as it will be easier for family members to visit if it is conveniently located within a short distance from home.
